FAQ for Silvia
Espresso Machine and Grinders
1. My machine doesn’t heat anymore.
A. Insure that the machine is plugged in and turned on.
B. If using a GFI outlet, make sure that the breaker in the outlet has not
been popped. To assure this, reset the breaker on the outlet itself.
C. Turn off machine and unplug from the outlet. Remove the lid of the
machine by removing the four screws securing each corning. Looking at the
front of the boiler will be a thermostat with a red button on it. Press in
the button to reset the thermostat.
D. If there is still not heat, please contact the company you purchased
your machine from to speak about further technical assistance.
2. My unit has an extra hose. It’s not shown in the picture. What is it
for?
A. It is an expansion tube from the boiler. If the boiler overpressures,
water travels through this tube back into the reservoir. There is nothing
that needs to be done with this tube; just leave it in the reservoir.
3. How should I clean/de-lime my machine?
A. To clean the machine, create a mixture of hot water and coffee cleaner
and use a brush to clean the group with it. THE MACHINE SHOULD NEVER BE
BACK FLUSHED.
B. To de-lime the machine, use a scale removing product specific for
coffee/espresso machines mixed in water and pour it into the reservoir.
Run the water out of the brew head to fill the boiler with the cleaning
solution. Allow it to sit and heat for 5 minutes and then flush the
mixture out for 5 additional minutes.
4. My steam knob does not turn off completely, so it continues to drip.
The gasket seat that seals off the steam from the wand is worn out. The
valve itself needs to be replaced, or the gasket seat needs to be
replaced. Please see your service technician or contact the place that
sold you the machine.
5. Water comes out of my steam wand, instead of steam.
A. The boiler may be overfilled. Too much water does not allow enough room
in the boiler for steam to accumulate. Allow the steam wand to run for a
while. Turn it off.
Then, allow the unit to re-heat.
B.The unit may need a new thermostat for the steam.
6. How can I make the temperature hotter?
A. There is no way to make the steam or the water temperatures hotter on
this machine. The coffee thermostat is set at 100 C (212 F) and the steam
thermostat is set at 140 C (284 F). These thermostats are not adjustable.
7. Every time I use my Silvia, it blows my GFI
A. The GFI outlet is bad. Test the machine in a different outlet to see if
the same problem occurs. OR
B. The heating element in the machine has blown, and will need to be
replaced. Please see your service technician or the company you bought the
machine from for additional assistance.
8. I’ve been using my Silvia for a few years, but now the portafilter
leaks every time I make a shot.
A. The group gasket has worn out and needs to be replaced. Please see your
service technician or the company that you purchased the machine from for
additional assistance.
9. My Rocky grinder will not adjust. The grind remains the same, no
matter where I set it.
A. Possibly the burrs need replacement, as they may have worn down too
much. Please see your service technician or the company that you purchased
the machine from for additional assistance.
10. Can I convert my Rocky doser grinder into a doserless?
A. Sorry, this cannot be done.
11. I bought my unit in Europe. Can I convert it to 110v?
A. You can purchase a transformer that converts electricity from 220v down
to 110v. Please see any local hardware store for more information on this.
True conversion would mean replacing all electronic components, and is
more expensive than buying a new machine.
12.Where is the nearest service?
